blxbrx LEGO model of the day - Mona Lisa

There are a few ways of making LEGO pictures. 1) Studs Out is where the studs on top of each LEGO brick face up (placed base down on a LEGO baseboard), or 2) Studs Up, "where the bricks are stacked atop one another normally and the viewer is looking at the side of the bricks".
For finer colour detail in "Studs Up" you can use plates instead of the squarish "pixel" of the 1x1 brick side.
Have a look at this example from Eric Harshbarger. The picture is impressive for its detail, then you realise the size of it when you look at the second picture on the dining table. Detail at Eric's site at this link: Eric Harshbarger's Mona Lisa

Pricewatch LEGO - was $20 now $12 at Kmart (2nd to 8th Dec)

eg Rotor Rescue (set 5866), Repair Truck (set 3179) and Hero Factory Meltdown (set 7148), are all normally $19.99 (at LEGO online). See page 16 of new catalogue at this link: Kmart catalogue 2-12 Dec

Sorry - I am not going to Camberwell Market Sunday on 28 Nov.

Unfortunately the extended rains today and forecast for rain early tomorrow means I am cancelling the LEGO stall again tomorrow. I hope to see you next week. Maybe the weather will be sunny for us next week.

New Series 3 minifigs - green packs, no barcode ID, but ....

We have found how LEGO do stock control of each pack & box of packs. There IS a unique ID on each packet. It is a series of dot patterns along one edge. A little bit harder than the barcodes, but you can still get the ones you want. See my Useful Links on the right for link to the original Flickr page. Meanwhile, here is what it looks like. See the black dots along the edge below. The gorilla and the samurai are similar, so harder to tell apart in shops:

These charts are for the US packets. We don't know if these apply for the rest of the world yet. There were different barcodes in the US for series 1 & 2.
See earlier blogs (scroll down) to see what the series 3 minifigs look like. Meanwhile I should have some at the market in a week's time if my order from the USA comes in this week.

LEGO model of the day - Domino Squad Final Run

Ok, good looking model. Then you see the scale, when you look at the 5 minifigs on the top of the grey area.

The story: It all begins on the planet Kamino, where the training of clones who have been bred to be perfect soldiers occur. These cadets must first be subjected to intense physical and mental training before heading off to war. Five headstrong clones of Domino squad struggle to complete their training. These cadets -- Hevy, Cutup, Droidbait, Fives and Echo -- seem to be a "bad batch" and are unable to work as a team. They're given a final training run to prove their mettle and the clones finally learn to work together...

Series 3 minifig news: January release has come early in USA

Surprise!!!
A "Fred Meyer" store in the Seattle area of USA has stock of the new Series 3 Collectible Minifigures. This series was expected to be released in January 2011.
Check out more good photos &  detail of how many come in a full box here: brickpop series 3 minifgs article
Also, as seen at www.eurobrick.com:
this compilation photo is from www.eurobricks.com (a great source of new release info for LEGO!) see link below

Comments from US buyers -
-The gorilla head has holes for the minifigure's eyes to show through and there's a zipper printed on the back of the torso.
-The hulu girl's skirt wraps around and is made of the same material as the capes. It doesn't come together at the ends as well as I'd like.
- The samurai has a very cool floral printed robe under the armor.
- The back of the chief's headdress is black where his hair should be, not white like the old Wild West headdresses.
-The speakers on the boombox are actually round with texture, not just printed on - really cool!
- The elf ears are part of the hairpiece and they're AWESOME!

I am told the "gorilla" is actually a man in a gorilla suit, & when the head comes off the gorilla it shows the head of the man & it looks all sweaty!!

blxbrx LEGO challenge. Prize: a new Chrome Stormtrooper (or equivalent value minifig)

Most people have stacked up LEGO bricks as high as they can, adding more until they fell over, so ... What are the 3 tallest LEGO towers ever made so far (& how tall)? and ....

What date in January 2011, and in which Melbourne building is the LEGO exhibition called "Brickvention 2011" going to be? (see my earlier blog, or my Useful Links on the right).

Prize: A new (in packet) Chrome Stormtrooper (or equivalent value or credit towards a blxbrx stall minifig) as a prize to the third acceptable answer emailed to me at blxbrx@gmail.com

Answers that are not just "official" records are ok, but I must see it has been widely reported on the internet or newspapers. Prize winner result will be advised on this blog. No competition end date, just the third acceptable answer received. Internet/Google research is probably required, & help is ok from friends and parents. Entries restricted to people from Victoria AU addresses for this competition.

blxbrx: LEGO model of the day: from mahjqa (again)

I saw this and I was struck by how LEGO can be useful, not "just a toy". This builder has made a camera dolly, which is a vehicle that carries a camera and often moves the camera around. It can position and move the camera and take pictures in ways no one could do if they were holding the camera.

AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO) Peer Kreuger's fascinating Power Functions-enhanced "camera vehicles" are used as mini dollies to record videos of his Lego creations. I have highlighted Peer's work in a previous blog entry (see ) under his nickname of "mahjqa", where he was using his own driving camera dollies to film his other LEGO creations on the move. Go to his Flickr photostream (lots of Power Function vehicles, including ice racers!) by clicking the link here: mahjqa's photostream
